About the levels

What the level numbers mean

The levels in this framework are based on those in the SfIA framework.

Each level describes how much responsibility, independence and influence a person has:

Level 1: Awareness Understands the concept and basic terminology
Level 2: Basic application Applies the skill with guidance in simple situations
Level 3: Working practice Performs the skill independently in routine work
Level 4: Advanced practice Adapts the skill to varied situations and constraints
Level 5: Expert practice Leads complex application of the skill across teams or systems
Level 6: Strategic influence Shapes how the skill is used across an organization
Level 7: Transformational leadership Defines direction and drives major change at the highest level
